Sustainability and Climate Resilience: Creating Opportunities for SMEs
This year’s annual SME conference highlights the immense potential for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to not only survive but thrive in the face of current environmental challenges by embracing sustainability and building resilience to climate change.
The conference recognises the crucial role that SMEs play in our economy, contributing significantly to job creation, innovation, and economic growth. However, we recognise that despite this role, SMEs are also particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and especially due to limited resources and limited capacity to address these challenges. These limitations have been particularly exacerbated by the economic impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic. The conference therefore seeks to empower SMEs by showcasing how sustainability and climate resilience can serve as catalysts for their long-term success.
The chosen theme of “Sustainability and Climate Resilience: Creating Opportunities for SMEs” aims to shift the narrative from viewing sustainability and climate resilience as mere burdens for compliance requirements by SMEs to recognising them as powerful drivers of innovation, competitive advantage, and growth. By embracing sustainability practices and building resilience to climate change, SMEs can not only mitigate environmental risks but also unlock new business opportunities and enhance their overall sustainability and viability in the long run.
