The Women in Health Leadership (WIHL) Project is a research-driven initiative aimed at advancing gender equity in Kenya’s health sector by addressing barriers that hinder women’s progression into senior leadership roles. The project examines how organizational policies, leadership culture, and workplace structures impact career growth for women in healthcare.
Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WIHL is a three-year initiative that combines research, advocacy, and targeted interventions to drive meaningful change. Through mentorship programs, coaching, and strategic allyship structures, the project equips mid-to-senior-level women leaders with the support they need to thrive.
Key Focus Areas:
- Research & Policy Advocacy – Generating insights on gender disparities and influencing policy reforms.
- Leadership Development – Establishing mentorship and coaching frameworks to support women leaders.
- Organizational Transformation – Promoting inclusive workplace cultures and equitable career pathways.
WIHL collaborates with key stakeholders, including the Kenya Healthcare Federation, county governments, health ministries, and civil society organizations, to implement sustainable solutions for gender-inclusive leadership in healthcare.
