Students undertaking the Bachelor of Financial Services Programme at Strathmore University recently visited Enwealth, a prominent organization specializing in pension, training, and insurance services. The visit proved to be an invaluable experience, enabling our students to engage and network with professionals from various departments, including business development, pension funds, and insurance. This article highlights the key takeaways and insights gained during this enriching excursion.

Hands-on Learning and Industry Exposure. This visit went beyond classroom sessions, immersing our students in a dynamic and practical environment. The opportunity to witness firsthand the operations of a leading organization in the pension and insurance sector was an eye-opening experience. Through interactive sessions, engaging presentations, and discussions with experts, our students gained valuable insights into the inner workings of the industry.

Networking and Collaboration. The students had an opportunity to connect and network with professionals from diverse departments allowing them to delve deeper into the intricacies of each department, ask pertinent questions, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities within the organization.

Benefits of Multi-Disciplinary Exposure. Enwealth’s commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration was evident throughout the visit. The students were exposed to the interconnectivity between business development, pension fund management, and insurance services. This holistic approach showcased the importance of cross-functional collaboration in achieving optimal outcomes in the pension and insurance industry.

Real-World Relevance and Application. The company visit provided a platform for students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By observing Enwealth’s operations and engaging in discussions with professionals, the students gained a deeper appreciation for how the concepts they learn in the classroom are put into action in the real world. This experience instilled confidence in their abilities and reinforced the relevance of their studies.

Tracie Rabar: The Enwealth team welcomed us with open arms and took us through an engaging presentation. It was thoroughly fun to see what we had learnt in the classroom come to life! From everything like what the various pension schemes as to what Enwealth is doing to meet SDG goals. Thank you to our lecturer, Mrs. Juliana Kamau and the Enwealth team for this opportunity!

Peris Njeri: Interacting with the Enwealth representatives was a great experience! The team was very accommodative and welcoming. I learnt a lot from the presentations about the company, their services and products for instance, the different types of pension schemes and benefits involved, how pension funds are managed and how benefits are calculated according to the agreement with a client.

Michael Mbuva: “Start thinking about pension!!” This is the only thought which crossed my mind after a very interactive session with the Enwealth team and I can say it’s a thought which applies to all of us who say we still have time before we get there. The team took us through a very educative and informative session with the main discussion being how pensions operate and the experience helped me expand my knowledge on the same having learned it in class and I can say seeing it’s application in real life truly was the crowning moment of the learning process. I truly thank our Lecturer Mrs Juliana and the entire Enwealth team for such an enriching experience.

The company visit to Enwealth was an enriching and memorable experience for our Bachelor of Financial Services students. The opportunity to engage with professionals from various departments allowed them to witness the practical application of their studies and provided valuable insights into the pension and insurance sector. We are grateful to Enwealth for their hospitality and for providing our students with a glimpse into the exciting world of financial services. Such industry visits reinforce our commitment to providing students with well-rounded education and preparing them for successful careers in their chosen fields.
