Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an immense impact on the global economy, forcing many businesses to scale back their operations and bringing others to the brink of closure. According to the World Bank, the impact of COVID-19 presents unique challenges for Sub-Saharan Africa due to the structural features of the region, namely the predominance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which account for 90% of business units, and the precariousness of most forms of employment in most countries.
