    “Redefining Kenya’s Food Systems: True Value of Food Project Sparks Regional Dialogue<\/strong><\/p>\n

    June marked a pivotal moment for the\u00a0True Value of Food Project Kenya\u00a0as we convened regional\u00a0Community of Practice (CoP) meetings\u00a0across three critical landscapes: the\u00a0Mau Forest Region, Loita Hills, and Cherengany Hills. Over two weeks, stakeholders from\u00a010 counties\u00a0came together to explore how redefining the value of food and nature can drive\u00a0climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and human well-being.<\/p>\n

    The True Value of Food Project shifts the focus from\u00a0price to true value, integrating\u00a0social, ecological, and economic dimensions\u00a0into decision-making. By doing so, it reveals the hidden costs and benefits of food systems, ensuring that policies and practices support both people and the planet.<\/p>\n

    Hosted in Narok, Bomet and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties amidst the backdrop of the shifting environmental conditions, the CoP meetings took the participants through three key themes that were discussed during the sessions:<\/p>\n

    Understanding True Value Accounting (TVA)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Facilitated by\u00a0Strathmore University, this session demonstrated how assessing the\u00a0full costs and benefits\u00a0of food production can uncover hidden environmental and social impacts\u2014empowering stakeholders to make more informed choices.<\/p>\n

    Nature-positive decision-making<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Using\u00a0economic evidence, we explored how communities and policymakers can adopt\u00a0sustainable practices\u00a0that ensure long-term ecological health and thriving livelihoods.<\/p>\n

    Data-driven change<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Participants also learned how robust data can enhance\u00a0natural resource management, shape policy, and improve environmental outcomes through mapping, analytics, and visualization tools.<\/p>\n

    Redefining prosperity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Moving beyond traditional metrics of wealth, we championed a\u00a0multidimensional view of well-being\u2014one that prioritizes\u00a0environmental health, social equity, and long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n

    The enthusiasm and collaboration witnessed during these meetings underscore a\u00a0growing demand for systemic change\u00a0in Kenya. As we advance, the True Value of Food Project remains dedicated to\u00a0making nature\u2019s value visible and ensuring that the\u00a0true cost and worth of food\u00a0inform decisions at every level.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
