class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1 cv-blog-posts-text-block\"><p>Strathmore University Business School recently trained 10 members of the Uganda National Oil Company Board and Executive Committee in a customized training Programme dubbed the Board Excellence Programme. This training Programme ran between 27th September 2021 \u2013 1st October 2021 at the SBS Uganda Leadership Academy in Kampala, Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>The Board Excellence Programme aimed to furnish the participants with trending boardroom issues and directorship matters. The participants gained skills ranging from financial oversight, strategic boards versus operational boards and risk assessment in the current VUCA environment among others.<\/p>\n<p>The training provided an opportunity for the participants to learn practically by looking at emerging trends in the boardroom and exploring the different board skills required for effective board management.<\/p>\n<p>The week-long Programme culminated in a graduation ceremony. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Dr. Robin Kibuka, Chairman of the SRCC, Uganda Advisory Board, emphasized the constant need to learn and unlearn. He highlighted four key things that a growth mindset allows you to do:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Constantly challenge the status quo to ascertain what needs to be modified and strategize to effect such changes<\/li>\n<li>Explore ways to keep learning and unlearning with a focus on solving problems as opposed to finding or assigning blame<\/li>\n<li>Work in teams; servant leadership with no dominant types but collegial approaches and team performance appraisal rather than individual appraisals and rewards<\/li>\n<li>Promote teamwork and always share information and the limelight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Board of Directors is a critical instrument of corporate governance and plays a critical role in economic development in all sectors.
