Organisations that are serious about their growth must invest in training their managers. Nurturing future leaders plays a major role in supporting succession planning and offers career pathways to employees increasing staff retention.<\/p>\n

Strathmore University Business School has just completed a training Programme for nine Heads of Department at Java House Africa. As the company expands into new markets, this team plays an important role in executing the company\u2019s strategic direction.<\/p>\n

Module one of the Java Star Leadership Programme kicked-off in March 2020, however, due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Module two was delayed and ran in November of 2020. The participants have now completed Module three and will graduate in March 2021.<\/p>\n

The Programme was designed to contribute to the leadership development of Heads of Departments within the Java Group. This Programme forms part of the broader Java Star developmental initiative which aims to ensure the Java succession plan and thus the attraction, selection, and development of leadership and talent within the Java Group. The Programme covered operational excellence, leading organisational culture and managing change among other areas. These aspects have been useful for Java, especially during the pandemic period.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the Programme, the participants had a guest speaker session where the team got insights from Thomas Baertl, Chief Operations Officer \u2013 Hospitality at Simba Corporation. Mr. Baertl gave his insights and experience in line with the theme:\u00a0Achieving & Sustaining Service Excellence in the hospitality sector.\u00a0<\/i>He emphasised the importance of sustaining service excellence and gave the participants tips on how they can continuously improve their service excellence. He shared with the participants a three-step approach that he has used during his many years in the hospitality industry:\u00a0Observe, Engage and then Implement.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
