Contexte

For the past 2 years, Strathmore Global Institute has organized Annual SME Conferences and Expo that bring together local SMEs and social entrepreneurs which offers opportunities for networking and business growth. The aim is to facilitate an exchange of knowledge, best practices and general information among stakeholders who include (government, policy makers, development partners, the private sector, youth and women organizations, civil society organizations, religious and faith organizations, research, and academia).

The theme for Strathmore’s Annual SME and Social Enterprise Conference and Expo 2024 is Empowering Ugandan SMEs and Social Enterprises for the future.

This Conference is designed to empower and inspire SMEs and social entrepreneurs in their journey of enterprise growth. It is a platform where entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds will come together to share insights, experiences, and strategies for success in enterprise.

Conference Objective

This conference has been designed to address the following outcomes:

  1. Sustaining Impact: Leveraging Innovation for Long-Term Success in Impact-Driven Enterprises : Innovative practices and solutions can enhance the long-term viability and effectiveness of these enterprises. This session will provide a comprehensive understanding of how innovation can drive the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of impact-driven enterprises, offering practical solutions to ensure their continued success.
  2. Enhanced Access to Finance; Many SMEs and social enterprises lack the necessary assets, established credit history, or formal financial documentation, making it difficult for them to qualify for loans. This conference will bring together some partners in the financial sector that have customized products for SMEs and social enterprises.
  3. Networking and support: Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, and having a network of supportive peers is invaluable. This conference will bring different social entrepreneurs and SMEs and will provide a platform for them to connect with each other, share experiences, and build relationships that can provide mentorship, collaboration opportunities, and emotional support.
  4. Promoting diversity and inclusion: By specifically addressing the needs and experiences of women and youth entrepreneurs, the conference will contribute to promoting diversity and inclusion in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It seeks to encourage the participation of women from diverse backgrounds to ensure that their voices are heard and valued in the business community.

This Conference aims at empowering SMEs and social enterprises in Uganda to become more resilient, innovative, and impactful. This is expected to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall development of the country.
