Contexte

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are crucial for the economical evolution of the whole globe. According to the World Bank, MSMEs account for approximately 90% of businesses and more than 50% of employment worldwide. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) estimates that 65 million enterprises, or 40% of formal MSMEs in developing countries, have an unmet financing need of $5.2 trillion every year, which is equivalent to 1.4 times the current level of the global MSME lending.

Social enterprises, alongside the MSMEs have emerged as key actors in addressing many of the complex issues of the world. Social enterprises focus on creating benefits to society as a whole, rather than generating wealth for the owners of the enterprises. As drivers of positive social change, social enterprises support causes around poverty alleviation, equality, education, health, clean water, sanitation, the environment, and sustainable development, among others. In the same way as MSMEs, social enterprises have a need to understand and to access the finance ecosystem.

Conference Objective

The conference considers this a timely opportunity for both MSME and social enterprise to engage with various stakeholders to discuss a range of innovative access to finance alternatives in order to enable them to continue to develop and flourish.
