Dr. Freshia Mugo – Waweru

Dr. Freshia Waweru is a senior lecturer at Strathmore University Business School teaching Derivatives Markets, Advanced Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Managerial Finance, Corporate Finance, International Finance, Public Sector Financial Management, Financial and Management Accounting, among other courses.

She is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) and a member of the Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

In 2012, she was appointed as part of a 16-member steering committee to come up with a 10-year Master Plan of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Kenya which was launched in November 2014.

In January, 2015, she was appointed as a member of the Capital Markets Master Plan Implementation Committee and the chairperson of the Financial Deepening Committee, especially on the introduction of derivatives market in Kenya. Later, in April  2015, Dr. Waweru was appointed as a member of the Anti – Money Laundering Board where she was a member of the Finance Committee and the Chair of the HR Committee.

In October 2015, she was appointed as a member of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Derivatives Risk Management Committee. In May 2018, Dr. Waweru was appointed as a member of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Board.

Qualifications

Ph.D in International Finance (Derivatives Markets) from Sogang University in Seoul (South Korea).

Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelors of Commerce degree (Accounting), both from Kenyatta University.

Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) and a member of the Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

She has extensive training and consultancy experience in different areas, including; the Finance for Non-Finance Directors & Managers Programme  (Lead Trainer), Financial Management, Working Capital Management (Credit Management) Corporate Governance, Leadership, Derivatives Markets & Trading, and Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management.
