Overview

As the world has continued to witness a steady increase in the use of digital technology in recent years, many organizations are yet to recognize the need to secure the cyberspace as a strategic tool for managing cyber activities more effectively. This need has come into sharp focus during the COVID-19 pandemic where organizations have been compelled to turn to digital technologies to respond to the crisis. COVID-19 has severely tested the resilience of digital technology and it has shown it has the potential to sustain the socio-economic activities. Indications are that this is now going to be the new normal, thus organizations must adjust to this reality.

The key challenges facing organizations include understanding the role of cyberspace in the strategic environment, the cyber threats in the cyberspace, incorporating security framework within the organization’s policies, appreciating the dynamics of policymaking and handling implementation hurdles.

Course Description

This programme is designed to explore key policy issues in the policy environment in the face of the increasing role of digital technology not only as a tool for efficient operations but as a key plank in organizations cyberspace survival. Unique characteristics of the cyberspace, which was initially designed without much focus on security will be discussed.

The course will help the participants appreciate this challenge and how to incorporate these challenges in the policy-making process.

Programme Delivery

The programme heavily employs the case methodology as a learning technique, that gives participants a chance to analyze real ICT public policy negotiation scenarios as they immerse themselves in various contemporary negotiation challenges, group discussions and lectures delivered by public policy experts (both academic and practitioners).

The mode of delivery is online.

Programme Structure and Format

The programme will be delivered by experts in ICT public policy, and will consist of:

  • Video presentations
  • Group work
  • Online asynchronous learning
  • A case study through which participants will reinforce and apply their learning
  • Projects
  • A ‘reflections and applications’ session, in which the whole class works on how what they have learned should be applied

Faculty

To address the need for practical hands-on learning the course will be taught by a mix of industry practitioners and highly qualified faculty from Strathmore University Business School with vast experience in leadership development.
