    In today\u2019s rapidly evolving global landscape, supply chain education must be redefined to address emerging challenges, embrace technological advancements, and prepare professionals for an increasingly complex and interconnected world.<\/p>\n

    Traditional supply chain models, designed for stability and predictability, are being disrupted by digital transformation, geopolitical shifts, climate change, and shifting consumer expectations. To remain relevant and effective, educational institutions and corporate training programs must rethink how supply chain professionals are trained and equipped for the future.<\/p>\n

    It is against this backdrop that on Wednesday, 19th<\/sup> March 2025, Strathmore University Business School (SBS) hosted a supply chain stakeholders roundtable, brining together key players from the Kenyan supply chain sector.<\/p>\n

    \n

    Over the past few decades, the global supply chain sector has undergone a profound transformation. More and more companies are integrating artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics to enhance visibility, efficiency, and resilience. E-commerce growth has accelerated demand for agile and responsive supply chains, while sustainability and ethical sourcing have become central priorities for organizations worldwide. Additionally, global disruptions such as pandemics and geopolitical conflicts have exposed vulnerabilities in traditional supply chain models, underscoring the need for adaptability and innovation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    The roundtable discussions highlighted six priority areas for supply chain educational reform:<\/p>\n

    Integration of technology and data analytics. <\/strong>To equip future supply chain professionals with relevant skills, education must prioritize digital literacy. Courses should incorporate AI-driven demand forecasting, blockchain-enabled traceability, and data-driven decision-making. Students and professionals must develop the ability to analyze vast datasets, interpret supply chain analytics, and leverage automation to improve operational efficiency.<\/p>\n

    Sustainability and ethical supply chains. <\/strong>The shift toward sustainable supply chains requires a deep understanding of circular economy principles, carbon footprint reduction, and responsible sourcing. Education programs should include case studies on companies that have successfully implemented sustainable supply chain practices, emphasizing the importance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations in decision-making.<\/p>\n

    Resilience and risk management. <\/strong>Recent global crises, Covid-19 being a good example, have highlighted the need for supply chain resilience. It is critical that courses cover scenario planning, risk assessment methodologies, and strategies for mitigating disruptions. Understanding supplier diversification, nearshoring, and geopolitical risk analysis will be critical for supply chain professionals navigating an uncertain world.<\/p>\n

    Soft skills and leadership development. <\/strong>As supply chains become more collaborative and globally dispersed, professionals must develop strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Supply chain education should emphasize teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to manage multicultural and remote teams effectively.<\/p>\n

    Experiential learning and industry collaboration. <\/strong>Real-world problem-solving and hands-on experience are crucial for modern supply chain education. Universities and training programs should foster partnerships with industry leaders, incorporating live projects, internships, and simulation-based learning. Exposure to real-world supply chain challenges enables learners to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.<\/p>\n

    By redefining supply chain education, we can develop a workforce that is technologically adept, sustainability-conscious, and resilient in the face of disruption.
