Strengthening Capacity in Climate Leadership in Africa<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Last week we trained the first group of participants in the Climate Leadership Executive Programme. The participants were pulled from different sectors in Kenya and beyond. The topics covered included climate change financing, climate action, climate change and building resilience. Other topic areas were climate change negotiation, climate risk impact and vulnerabilities in Africa.<\/p>\n

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to sustainable development worldwide. Its widespread and unprecedented impacts disproportionately burden the poorest and most vulnerable countries, many of which are in Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n

The most prominent global policy responses to climate change are covered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Together, these frameworks provide the foundation for sustainable, low carbon, and climate-resilient development pathways, which have been least implemented in Africa. Pursuing climate action in Africa by strengthening capacity in climate leadership offers an integrated, coherent, and is the strongest approach to enable African countries to achieve their objectives efficiently.<\/p>\n

The Climate Leadership Executive Programme is designed to build the critical mass of climate leaders in Africa to effectively engage in national, regional, and international climate change actions and climate policy discourse accelerating the transformation of climate change policy to action.
