\/><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1 cv-blog-posts-text-block\"><p>Last week, Mr. Raymond Mutura, Director of the Centre for Research on Organizations Work &amp; Family at Strathmore University Business School attended a regional family workshop in Naivasha. The workshop, dubbed the \u201cEvidence-based Ageing-related Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa aimed to provide a forum for the exchange of experiences and substantive knowledge on older persons and demographic ageing in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) in collaboration with the African Union (AU), the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA), the International Institute on Ageing United Nations-Malta (INIA), the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and the Stakeholder Group on Ageing Africa (SGA).<\/p>\n<p>The workshop participants were drawn from all over Africa with different governments represented from Botswana to Lesotho, Nigeria, Zambia, S.Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi, Liberia, Burkina Faso, the African Union and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs \/Division for Inclusive Social Development.<\/p>\n<p>This regional workshop was also a capacity building exercise aimed at policymakers and civil society representatives, especially those working on ageing issues or older persons-led organizations and provided a forum for the exchange of experiences and the latest research and substantive knowledge ageing policies, mainstreaming older persons in sectoral policies and application of the revised African Union Plan of Action on Ageing (2020). Further, the workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of participants to formulate, implement, monitor and review policies on older persons at regional, national and local levels, using various bottom-up methodologies conducive to the participation of older persons.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Raymond Mutura during his presentation on the role of the family regarding the livelihoods of older persons highlighted the SDGs closely related to the family policy; SDG 1- No Poverty, SDG 2- Zero Hunger, SDG 3 &#8211; Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4- Quality Education, SDG 5- Gender Equality, SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. He further highlighted policy interventions from the National Policy on Family Promotion and Protection on marriage, parenting, religion &amp; culture, family education, family health and vulnerability and social protection.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mutura is a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Family Policy, Family Law &amp; Parenting, a Lecturer on Family Studies, Social Ethics and the Family Business Programme for Entrepreneurs. He is also the Director of the Center for Research on Organizations, Work &amp; Family at Strathmore University Business School.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Centre for Research on Organisations Work &amp; Family (CROWF)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Centre for Research on Organisations Work &amp; Family (CROWF) mission is to assist and engage persons, families, and companies to see the connection on how the family enables work, organizations, businesses, and society, in general, to thrive by conducting and disseminating research on this. It has been instrumental in the development of the Draft National Policy on Family Promotion and Protection and currently working with other Kenya National Policy on Family Promotion and Protection and is currently working with other stakeholders to develop a Kenya National Parenting Manual through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection project in 2021.
