Objectives

This event is designed to motivate and educate women entrepreneurs, providing them with valuable insights and practical advice they can apply to their own entrepreneurial endeavours. A primary focus of the event will be to position the Women-owned SMEs and Social enterprises not only as local enterprises, but also globally competitive players with an emphasis on a digital economy and access to regional and global markets.

Specifically, the 2024 SME Conference and Expo aims at achieving the following objectives:

  1. Share knowledge, insights, and best practices for women’s empowerment and success in business.
  2. Provide a platform for collaboration, networking and exhibiting their products and services.
  3. Address challenges faced by women-owned SMEs and explore strategies for overcoming them.
  4. Showcase diverse success stories and role models to inspire and motivate women entrepreneurs.
  5. Facilitate conversations about access to resources, funding, and support services for women-owned

Overview

Background

For the past 11 years, Strathmore University Business School has organized Annual SME Conferences and Expo that bring together SMEs and social entrepreneurs locally and regionally which offers opportunities for networking and business growth. The aim is to foster an exchange among stakeholders (government, policy makers, development partners, the private sector, youth and women organizations, civil society organizations, religious and faith organisations, research, and academia) on knowledge and best practices on SME and social enterprise growth and development.

The theme for Strathmore’s Annual SME and Social Enterprise Conference and Expo is Empowering Women, Building Futures: The Path to Success in Women-Owned SMEs.

This Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference is designed to empower and inspire female entrepreneurs in their journey of business creation and growth. It is a platform where women from diverse backgrounds will come together to share insights, experiences, and strategies for success in the business world.

Conference Outcomes

This conference has been designed to address the following outcomes:

  1. Empowerment: Women often face unique challenges and barriers in the business world, including gender bias, limited access to funding, and societal expectations.
