Wednesday, 19th July 2023, Strathmore University embarked on a new journey with the official launch of the Strathmore Global Institute, Tanzania (SGI Tanzania). As a strategic vehicle for the university’s expansion across Africa, SGI Tanzania marks the first step in its mission to spread its educational excellence and impact across the continent, starting with Tanzania, and extending to the Southern African Development Community (SADCC) region, and beyond.
Under the theme of ‘Leadership Growth and Opportunities Prospects in Tanzania and the Region,’ the momentous launch event gathered influential business leaders from Tanzania, sparking discussions and exploration of the immense growth potential for Tanzanian enterprises.
Dr. Caesar Mwangi, Executive Dean, Strathmore University Business School (SBS), delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing SBS’s steadfast commitment to cultivating exceptional African leaders. He stated that SBS aims to bridge the current skills gap by offering world-class management and leadership programs in Tanzania, thereby empowering individuals with the expertise needed to drive transformative change.
SGI Tanzania will provide two types of programmes:
- open enrollment programmes, and customized programmes tailored to meet specific organizational needs. One noteworthy initiative is the CEO Apprenticeship Programme (CAP), a collaborative effort between SGI Tanzania and Tanzania CEO Roundtable, designed to groom future leaders by offering invaluable hands-on experience in leadership roles.
During the keynote address, John Ulanga, Board Chair of KCB Tanzania, highlighted the pivotal role that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) play in fostering employment opportunities. He underscored the importance of nurturing vibrant SMEs and MSMEs, which are the backbone of job creation and economic growth in Tanzania and throughout the African continent.
