Strathmore Business School held its 9th annual graduation on 2nd December 2016. For the 207 graduates, the ceremony marked the beginning of a new journey in their professional careers. Dr. George Njenga, Dean of SBS opened the ceremony, challenging the graduates to create a legacy and apply all that they had learnt to serve the society and help others. The Alumni Representative, Brian Nyikuli, reminisced about being in the same chair as the graduating class some years before. He then went ahead to urge each and every person present to tap into unimaginable possibilities.
Dr. Herta von Steigel – Founder of Ariya Capital Group Limited and Chair of the Kenya Chapter of Women Corporate Directors, delivered the key note address themed, ‘Finding your purpose, and building a Legacy.’ In her speech, she alluded to three things that stood out: courage, catastrophe and complacency. Dr. Herta used a metaphor about the great ship, the Titanic and its eventual fall; Catastrophe. Complacency was associated with the California ship which after being apprised about what had happened to the Titanic, the captain went ahead and took a nap and in the end, was of no help at all. Courage was associated with the final ship, Caparthia, which although small, took off to help the remnants of the Titanic. Conclusively, she challenged the graduates informing them that just like the ship, the choice of what they want to be is theirs.
Congratulations to all the graduates!
