As a response to the opportunity arising from the huge demand demonstrated by Uganda market during the pilot run of the Regional Academy in 2013/14, the Strathmore Business School (SBS) and Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSDA) partnered to replicate and expand the Uganda Regional Academy into Tanzania and Rwanda Regional Academies as an integral part of both institutions’ broader strategy of capacity building through partnerships. A grant was extended to SBS by FSD Africa to facilitate the establishment and running of leadership academies in respect to provisions of the agreement.

FSD Africa is envisioning this project to be the best in Africa; by building more effective client institutions whose senior and mid-level managers have been trained by SBS, over 5 million customers will receive better financial services. SBS has contributed to the project through its four pillars Academic Pillar, Research, Leadership Excellence and Sustainability which resonate well with FSDA pillars; Skills development and training, Growth and Investment, Inclusive programmes and Regional platform.

The projects aim is to train 1000 executives by the end of the three-year agreement and so far over 300 new, middle and senior executives have undergone the multi-level programs. SBS is also building local capacity by training faculty and coaches for the respective countries to push the project to sustainability.
